In 1966, a 31 year-old architect hung his shingle in a new town – Stowe. Work was scarce at first, but within a year, as luck would have it, Peter managed to cross paths with Sepp Ruschp, then the President of the Mount Mansfield Company. The timing was fortuitous, as the Mountain Company was just beginning to make serious investments into the town of Stowe by seeking to establish Mt. Mansfield as the veritable “Ski Capital of the East” — but they needed the right architect to do it. And so began a decades-long relationship with Ruschp’s visionary team — cementing the burgeoning mountain resort as a destination spot. Though many of the original buildings Peter designed have been renovated or replaced over the years (Cliff House, Octagon Bottom Station, Lodge Condominiums), one could say that Peter’s vaulted design sensibilities of scale, space, and precision contributed in elevating Stowe’s Mount Mansfield to the elite ski area it became.
